Hengrave Hall wedding fireworks

Hengrave Hall wedding fireworks are a rare but highly enjoyable treat. And absolutely blummin’ spectacular! The fireworks for Vicki and Dean’s wedding were set up by the capable and very nice folk from Fully Fused Fireworks and there were a few fantastic little touches that made the experience just that extra bit special. If you ever want to feel like you are walking on stage for the final of X-Factor, this is your moment. Standing in amongst these huge fountains of fireworks was so cool …but then again, I’m a big kid and a sucker for fireworks.

We had been lucky with the rain all day – a few spots as Vicki and Dean walked into the chapel but thankfully nothing when they walked out. During the reception we could see a large ominous black cloud rolling over the fields towards Hengrave Hall and a massive storm hitting a few minutes before the end of the reception. Near perfect timing. Just to keep us on our toes, there was a bit more rain when the last of the decisions about the timings of the fireworks were being made. But thankfully, we had a perfect cool and clear evening when it was time to light the fuses. I know Vicki would have been gutted if they had been called off. Me too!

Not only great fireworks, but doing a great backlighting job too! Lovely shot.

Gosfield Hall winter wedding | Just One

It might have been a chilly February day but this wasn’t going to stop us making the most of this wonderful Essex wedding venue, Gosfield Hall. Not one; not two; not even three images – that’s right folks, four (count them) four fantastic sneak peek images from Cheryl and Steve’s Gosfield Hall winter wedding. You’re really getting your money’s worth out this week’s Just One! One of my favourite shots at Gosfield Hall is looking down that long ailse at the couple just after they have got married, with them both just beaming with pride as they stand in front of all their family and friends. We made the most of the venue with plenty of shots of just Cheryl and Steve as I know that they were both keen on getting as many as possible – well, I say “they” but I suspect Steve was being a brave soul through out it all!

Glenham Hall wedding photography of Laura and Dan

A couple of days before this wedding, the weather was looking pretty bleak. Pretty grim. Well, it was the middle of February and during the run of oddest weather we’ve had for a long time. When I met up with Laura, it was grey, wet and miserable and we had pretty much settled on Plan B for the wedding photography – Plan B is ‘doing all the photography indoors’! Well, wouldn’t you know it, the day of the wedding took us all by surprise – beautiful blue skies, crisp, clear winters day. Still a little frisky but the best we could ask for this time of year. Glenham Hall is a fantastic backdrop for any wedding but more so when the sky is blue, it just seems to shine. Nothing could out shine Laura though, she looked quite simply stunning. Nothing makes a person look more beautiful than a big smile and Laura has one of the best. The wedding itself was held in the church behind the hall (just that little too far to walk on a winters day) and back to the house for the drinks reception. As the sun was setting (which was about 3.30pm!) the guests made their way through the gardens to the marque for the evening’s entertainment.

Here are a few of my favourite shots from the day.

Winter wedding at Botleys Mansion of Charlotte and Geoff

The last wedding of 2012 was the winter wedding at Botleys Mansion of Charlotte and Geoff. And there was no denying it, wrapping it up in any other way …it was winter! Cold, cold and a little more cold on top. But the weather is rarely something that I worry about at Botleys Mansion as there are so many photo opportunities inside the house as well as outside. I was glad, however, that Charlotte and Geoff were up for braving the temperatures and getting some shots outside – I suspect that the champagne had kicked in a little by then as well! These guys were superb to work with, both wear their hearts on their sleeves making their relationship so passionate and honest, a joy to witness. It also made for some hilarious speeches. One of many things that really touched me about the day was the relationship that Charlotte has with her father, something that I hope I have at least a little bit of with my daughter, and made for one of the funniest and heart-felt father of the bride speeches I had heard.

Keeping me company on the work front was the excellent and ever entertaining Dan from From the Hip wedding videos. Here are a few of my favourite images from the day.

Loseley Park weddings | Just One

Loseley Park weddings have a charm all of their own – the main hall where the ceremonies are held with it’s wood panelled elegance covered foot to ceiling in historic oil paintings of the owners through out the generations and into the stunning gardens, one of the most beautifully designed and well looked after gardens in the country. Quite simply beautiful. None more so than when the sun shines. And boy, did it shine for the Nicki and Luke’s wedding! It felt like the sun had been shy for so long that it had just found it’s confidence and was going to show off. Not even a cloud in a crystal blue sky to interrupt it. The gardens are always impressive but I think we were about two or three weeks early to really see them start to bloom into their spring glory. Nicki and Luke were so relaxed and confident about their day, not even the late spring was going to put them off their stride. But I have to admit, having a lot of flowers around would have at least meant there was an excuse for a few tears during the ceremony – I always blame hay fever at times like this! Luke, being one of them tough Aussies we hear all about, we’d definitely have to put the tears down to hay fever and nothing else! Here’s one of my favourite images from the day, infectious smiles from the lovely couple …you can’t help but feel summery with smiles like that.

Herefordshire wedding photography of Iona and Greg

Over to Kilpeck in Herefordshire last December for the winter wedding of Iona and Greg. Kilpeck Church is an impressive and ancient Norman church in a beautiful part of the country. It’s also one of the most welcoming parts of the world as was testament to Iona’s family who were nothing but warm and generous with their hospitality right from the start. The ceremony was late in the afternoon and, close to the shortest day of the year, meant that it was pretty dark when Iona turned up for the ceremony. It worked incredibly well as Hexie had gone above and beyond in the organisation and made sure that the path to the church was well lit and the church itself was full of candle light. Incredibly romantic, if a little chilly, in the church but I don’t think Greg or Iona noticed. To be honest, apart from each other, I don’t think they really noticed anything, they were so engrossed in each other. Back to the family home of Dippersmoor Manor for more Millais hospitality and into the evening for the wedding breakfast. As always, my concerns before a wedding are usually practical – winter weddings have their own set of challenges let alone with the way the weather has been this year but from the moment I met Iona’s parents, I knew the day was in good hands. Fantastic evening, superb speeches and warming winter welcome throughout. Herefordshire wedding photography.

Gosfield Hall winter wedding photography of Natalie and James

Natalie and James are based in Los Angeles so when they spoke to me about getting married in the UK in late December, she hoped hoped for a misty grey day, full of wistful romance, perhaps a sprinkling of snow, a typically British winter’s wedding. They get more than their fair share of sunshine in LA and they were happy with something from the other end of the weather spectrum. I’m sure the British weather would be happy to oblige, after the year of rubbish weather we’ve had and it being the UK, I could pretty much guarantee what they were looking for. All my plans for the day were for a wet weather, perhaps with a slim chance of getting outside for a little bit. Well, wouldn’t you know it, I’ve yet to shoot a winter wedding at Gosfield Hall where the sun hasn’t shone and this wedding was no exception. Gloriously bright sunshine! Natalie’s wonderfully golden and sunny personality is infectious, no one who meets her can help but be touched by it, and so too, it seems the weather. Natalie was simply stunning, through and through. I knew from the relaxed and fun atmosphere that greeted me in the bridal suite at the start of the day that this wedding was going to be pretty special (although I did have to do a double take when I got to the boys room, what with all the hair care product and straightening irons, that I was in the bridal suite …!) Here are some of my favourite images from the Gosfield Hall winter wedding photography of Natalie and James. And, if they bring the sunshine with them every time they come back to visit, I for one would be very grateful!

Hedsor House wedding photos of Anna and Tim

A bit of a mammoth blog post for the Hedsor House wedding photos of Anna and Tim this week. To be honest, it could have been a lot bigger! There were so many photos from this wedding that really stood out for me – such an incredible day. Anna and Tim were a fantastic couple to work with, great fun to be around and with superb family & friends. Add in the beautiful backdrop of Hedsor House and some late winter golden sunshine and you have great mix for a wedding day. I wondered as Tim is the brother of a great friend and fellow wedding photographer Guy Hearn (and this is Guy’s favourite wedding venue) whether there would be a little bit of extra pressure on me – but from the moment I arrived, I knew that the day was going to be completely relaxed and all about having a lot of fun! A lot of fun. The great thing about weddings at Hedsor House is that it’s a blank canvas that the couple get to put their own mark on their day and Anna and Tim did that with great style. Special mention also goes to the funniest and cutest flower girls and the coolest Mum – Mrs H has that no nonsense look only a mother of two boys who’ve shown a lot of ‘character’ growing up! Mrs H, you’ve done well! Here’s a few of my favourite images from the day.
